But who is the IBC and what do they stand for? Their website voices their passion for what the sport can do, that they “will unite all riders (professional and amateur), national and regional associations, clubs and other related bodyboarding entities, bodyboarding schools and coaching groups, through social upliftment initiatives centred around bodyboarding, photographers, filmmakers, event organisers, technical staff and the fans of bodyboarding.
The IBC has a primary goal of developing and supporting bodyboarding around the world and empowering regional areas to develop the sport. Through the work done in growing bodyboarding within countries such as Chile, Brazil, Peru, Portugal, Spain and the Canary Islands over the last six years, the various members behind the IBC have developed an academically proven framework to use bodyboarding as tool for social upliftment and change by connecting more people with joys of wave riding and the opportunities that come with it.”

What’s so great about the location of this year’s IBC world tour event? Hermanus and surrounding villages boast vistas of sweeping mountains and a pristine coastline that offers beaches for every pastime. Of the area's three Blue Flag status beaches, Onrus Beach is such a popular surf and bodyboard hotspot that the first IBC Bodyboarding world tour to take place in Africa will be hosted in these waters.
Onrus lies along Walker Bay on the south coast of the Western Cape, about 115 km southeast of Cape Town. There are many excellent villages a stone’s throw from Onrus, including Hermanus, Vermont, Sandbaai and Voëlklip, each offering its own delights.
Within a 12km radius, you’ll find a valley of internationally accoladed wines, dining experiences that won the region its status of Creative City of Gastronomy, two harbours – one historic and one active, Fernkloof Nature Reserve with hiking trails into the mountains, and some of the most incredible spots for the best land-based whale watching in the world.
